Synopsis:

Originally from Reynosa, Mexico, Fidel has spent half of his life in the United States, about 20 years now. However, he argues that he never forgets his roots because it’s about remembering his family. Fidel arrived to Eugene in 1989 and describes how he struggled to get on his feet, particularly in the face of “accepted racism.” He fought for a better life and through the Trucha program, was able to earn his GED and later attended the University of Oregon.

Joel Driver is a graduating senior majoring in Spanish.

Originario de Reynosa, México, Fidel ha estado la mitad de su vida en los Estados Unidos, aproximadamente 20 años. Sin embargo, el asegura que nunca olvida sus raíces porque sería como olvidar a su familia. Fidel llegó a Eugene in 1989, y describe como luchó para salir adelante, especialmente ante el ‘racismo aceptado.’ Peleó para tener una mejor vida, y a traves del programa Trucha, pudo obtener su GED y después atender la Universidad de Oregón.
