This is the story of Javier Lara

My documentary tells of Javier Lara’s journey from Guerrero, Mexico to Oregon and explores the transformations in identity brought about by his experiences as a farmworker, student, and social activist. It also demonstrates Javier’s commitment to giving voice to the most marginalized and exploited workers in Oregon. Lastly, Javier outlines the tragedy of wage theft in Oregon—in 2012 alone workers’ claims topped $2 million, according to the Bureau of Labor and Industries—and work being done to raise awareness and strengthen legal protections for workers. I hope Javier Lara is seen as an example of deep civic engagement and that the documentary underscores the importance of the campaign against wage theft.
