Embracing the Dream / Abrazando el Sueño

A note about the film:

José Contreras is a Latino immigrant attending the University of Oregon as an advertising major. He is participating in the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program which allows certain individuals to work or go to school on a permit provided by the U.S. government. The DACA program is a policy that may or may not be renewed when President Obama once he leaves office, this will leave many DACA recipients with the uncertainly about the future.

Jose wants to use his degree to make a difference and get people to look at things from a different perspective so there will be less segregation and people will have a better understanding of those around them. Whether he will be able to stay in the United States to do that is an open ended question that has yet to be answered.

José will be graduating from the School of Journalism & Communication in 2016.
